In the next area, there are Spikesters in holes. Rock Candy does 200 damage to all enemies in battle, so it's good to have for late game. To the left of the passageway is a hidden Treasure Box with a Rock Candy inside.

Mario agrees and looks a last time back where a short warning is. Follow the train tracks and you'll find Dyna trying to get a mine car to work. You have now collected the third star, but are still stuck somewhere deep in the mine.
